Vandivort Theater Center Showcases Queen of Bingo

The audience participated in a bingo game during the intermission of the show. They will have the chance to win a turkey as a prize.

The middle-aged sisters Sis and Babe are no strangers to gossip. They both certainly laid it out at a bingo game in their local church in "The Queen of Bingo" a Vandivort Center Theatre dinner show that is being held in the fourth floor ballroom of the building.

Natalie Sullivan, who portrays Sis in the show is starring opposite Becky Smith who plays the role of Babe. Ms. Sullivan genuinely loves playing Bingo and like in the play, her sister is her constant companion when playing bingo once a month. She added that being in a bingo hall is like being expose in a different culture. Natalie Sullivan is a member of their community theater in Florida before moving to Ozarks a few years back. The "Queen of Bingo" is her debut in Springfield theater.

The play acording to director Gary Lyons, is not all about gossip or comedy but rather it is a play that also deals with the nature of both sisters like Babe has an eating problem and Sis plays bingo because she is lonely. It is also a play about their journey to self-actualization and discovering each other's personality.

Terry Bloodworth, who plays a priest in the play, sets up the bingo game for the audience just before the intermission. The winner of the bingo game will get a turkey as a prize. According to director Lyons, the turkey is related to something in the whole play.

While a dinner theater presentation is not a big deal for the theater company, holding a play in the Grand Ballroom for the first time is a big change from last year's venue, which is the Agrario/Patton Alley Pub. Director Gary Lyons also said that the new owner of Vandivort's Center, Aaron Buerge was supportive when they came to him about renting the ballroom for the play. A dinner by Gallery Bistro will be served to the guest, with dessert during the intermission.
